Organization for the Suzuki Desert Storm Trail ride to be held October 28-29 near Waiouru is progressing well according to Event Organiser Nick Reader.
Suzuki NZ has been confirmed as the naming rights sponsor, with strong support from Acerbis and Vesrah.
The New Zealand army has confirmed that they will provide all the catering, medical, communication and even some of the sweep riders for the event. The NZ Army is renowned for cooking tasty tucker in large volumes so buying from the Army is a great idea to make your weekend simple.
Free camping is offered on site, with a large marquee available for shelter and socializing. Otherwise riders can stay in Motels or Cabins at Waiouru or Ohakune.
Desert Storm provides riders with a great opportunity to ride some of the most scenic and exciting trails in NZ and to mix with 200 – 300 keen off road enthusiasts.
Special discounts are offered for those that pre enter on time, with further reductions for two day riders and big discounts for families.
All pre entries also go into the draw to win a set of Acerbis Hand guards, Vesrah brake pads and $100 worth of Shell petrol vouchers. And as a bonus all entrants get a free chocolate bar to provide some much needed energy for the bodies.
Special short loops designed flat track and cross country style are set up for young or novice riders or for those who just want a quick blast close to the base.
It must be stated clearly that this event is not run by the Ruapehu Motorcycle club and that 70% of the riding is in a forest, with 30% of the riding on the firebreaks at the Rangipo Deserts edge. The NZ Army training grounds desert areas that used to be used for the Desert Storm ride 1990-1995 are not available for civilian recreational use. However the tracks are fun, fast and flowing, with no difficult terrain.
An entry form is available in the Kiwi Rider Magazine or by contacting Nick Reader.
Escape to the “Desert Oasis” for two days of fun and adventure!
