Wellington junior motocross rider Henry Madams has won the NZ Junior North Island Motocross Championship for Motorex KTM Junior Racing team over the weekend, only weeks after winning the National NZ Junior Motocross Championship.
The two round North Island Championship commenced at Hawkes Bay in early April, where Madams secured first outright on the 250 SX-F in the 14-16 years class. Competing in five motos at the opening round, Madams won four motos and placed third in one moto, to take the overall win for the opening round.
The Championship wrapped up this weekend at Otorohanga near Hamilton, where Madams again took the overall win after competing in five 15 minute motos, but this time he had to work hard for his win on a tumbling block to the podium.
“I’m stocked to claim this win and I definitely earned it at this final round after crashing in pretty much all of my races, said Madams.
“It was a weird feeling to keep crashing because it’s not something I usually do, but I just couldn’t get the bike to stick, I obviously had a bad tyre choice for the slippery conditions.
“I finished within the top three for four out of the five motos at this final round, and although I crashed in pretty much all my races I still managed to charge back when I was down.”
Madams won by a 40 point margin over Motorex KTM junior team mate Matthew Prumm who secured second, while another KTM rider, privateer Michael Litt came home in third, making the KTM 250 SX-F the winning junior bike for the Championship.
As a part of the final event the promoter also put on a Champion of Champions race, combining all aged juniors in every class. Taking off from a 40 riders starting grid, Madams got the hole shot and never looked back, without crash throughout the entire race.
“The Champion of Champions was the first race for the round that I found some traction and thankfully this time didn’t fall once,” added Madams.
Henry Madams will next compete in three weeks time in the Spectro Winter Motocross Series held on the North Island. Results will be posted at www.ktm.co.nz
