Stefan Merriman\'s crash on the first day in the WEC round staged in Finland [8 - 9 June] injured his knee and although it had not healed he made a last minute decision to ride the last round in Sweden last weekend.
It was not a wise decision as his knee was very swollen but he rode on as best he could and finished fourth in his [400cc Four Stroke] class.
He made the decision not to ride the next day, Sunday, to prevent further aggravation to the injury and allow his knee some time to repair before the Italian champs in a few weeks.
Stefan has finished the 2002 World Enduro Championships Series;
2nd in the 400cc 4T class.
3rd in
the Overall classification.
Not so very long ago that would have been a sensational result for a guy who was born in NZ [OK he lives, sometimes, in Australia] but it was not the result that Stefan wished for in 2002.
Some consolation can be gained from the fact that he wasn\'t 100% fit to ride in the last 4 rounds.
He is now looking forward to a better result in 2003.
